“I take the Constitution very seriously.” March 2008

“I believe in the Constitution and I will obey the Constitution of the United States. We’re not going to use signing statements as a way of doing an end run around Congress.” May 2008

“Some here wish that I could just bypass Congress and change the law myself, but that’s not how democracy works.” May 2011

“Believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting.” May 2011

“I’m the President of the United States, I’m not the emperor of the United States.”

“If we start broadening that [taking actions without Congress], essentially I would be ignoring the law…” September 2013

“The best way to solve this problem is by working together…” November 2014

“For those who do not think I have the authority to act in this manner or who think I shouldn’t act I have this to say to you, pass a bill.” November 2014.
